WITHDRAWAL CARDS  Back to top

We provide a special free benefit to members in good standing who leave Local 655.  It's a withdrawal card entitling you to rejoin Local 655 or any other Local of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union throughout the United States without paying an initiation fee.

If you return to the Retail Industry at a later date, you must deposit this withdrawal card, in person, with the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union under whose jurisdiction you are working within 30 days from the date you resume work at the trade. Failure to turn in your withdrawal card will result in the card becoming void and the full reinstatement fee will have to be paid before you could again be a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union.

To get a withdrawal card, call (636) 394-6500 or toll free at 1-800-392-6550 and ask for the Membership Department.  The withdrawal card will be mailed to your home address currently on file.

OFFICER OF THE DAY  Back to top

Every day a Union Representative is assigned as the Officer Of The Day (O.D.), seven days a week, 365 days a year.  During office hours, this person is here to help you if your regular Union Representative is unavailable.

After office hours until 9 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the weekends, you may leave your name and phone number for the O.D.  Your call will be returned via our voice mail/beeper system.

You can leave a message after the O.D. hours too, but your call may not be returned until the next day.  Just call the main number at (636) 394-6500 or toll free at 1-800-392-6550  ext. 2055

WEINGARTEN RIGHTS

YOUR RIGHT TO UNION REPRESENTATION

The Supreme Court of the United States decided in the case of the NLRB vs. Weingarten, Inc.  that:

"an employee has the right to have a union representative present at any investigatory interview conducted by the employer, where the employee reasonably believes the interview might result in disciplinary action."

(See also NLRB vs. Equipment Service Company.)

As a member of the United Food & Commercial Workers Union, you can not be required to submit to an investigatory interview where you have a reasonable belief that you may be disciplined, without a representative of your Union present.  However you must:

Ask for representation - this right is not automatic.  If you are denied this right, offer to return to work or to clock out and go home.  Do not stay in the room.

Make no statement, written or verbal, unless they are absolutely true.  Any statement you make can be used against you.  Always request copies of any document that you may sign.

You should state:

"I am not being insubordinate, however, I am refusing to talk with you further until my union representative is present.  I will either return to my work or I will clock out and leave but I will not continue this interview."

DO NOT WAIVE THIS RIGHT BY ALLOWING THE INTERVIEW TO GO ON.

  James P. Dougherty, President
