Jim Dougherty, a 32-year veteran of
United Food and Commercial Workers Local 655 and the
union's former director of collective bargaining,
was elected by the membership to represent Local 655
in August 2005.
Local 655 represents a diverse group
of working people in both Retail and Professional
Divisions.
Each day the officers and staff work diligently to
provide the best representation for the members and
insure the highest level of productivity for the
employers. Each year hundreds of young workers get
their first work experience and introduction to
Union representation with employers who have a
contract with Local 655. We make every effort to
make this experience both informative and
rewarding.
Our Professional Division provides many dedicated
care givers the opportunity to have representation
and deal with their employer on issues that enhance
their ability to serve others to the best of
their ability.
For over 70 years members of this Union have worked
in all aspects of the retail industry. We attain
some of the finest wages, benefits, and pensions for
our members. In addition, we have been partners in
one of the nation's best grocery industries, where
quality and services are required.
We, at Local 655, take our duties very seriously.
Young or old, professional, retail, manufacturing
or warehouse, we take representation seriously.
Our members deserve no less.
